Robert L. Greene Biography
Dr. Green is an expert on urban issues, including the impact of race, education and employment on individuals and communities. Because of his expertise, Dr. Green is sought after by urban mayors, statewide public officials, college presidents, and school superintendents, and he serves as a consultant and advisor to those groups as well as to business, corporate and community leaders. A national expert on school reform, Dr. Green is currently working in several major urban school districts including Detroit , Michigan . He is director of a research team that has a major grant to evaluate the Detroit Public Schools. He is also known for his staff development work with public school teachers, college and university administrators and public officials. In addition, he serves on court-appointed committees that deal with questions of equity, and as an expert witness in court cases related to education and employment. Dr. Green's research and writings have focused primarily on the impact that poverty and racial discrimination have had on America 's urban populations. The author of several books, including The Urban Challenge: Poverty and Race and Metropolitan Desegregation, Dr. Green has published many articles, monographs, and book chapters related to poverty, education, and employment. He co-authored the W.K. Kellogg Foundation's National Report on key ways to support family life and reclaim city streets, which discusses strategies to improve the quality of life in urban communities. In addition, he is the author of a major article on school reform published in the May 2000 issue of The Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science. He is the author of Expectations: How Teacher Expectations Can Increase Student Achievement published in 2000 by Alpine Guild. On March 26, 2002, Dr. Green received the International Ghandi-King-lkeda Award for Human Rights and Peace Initiatives from Morehouse College of Atlanta, Georgia. He is also a member of Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society.
