Urban revitalization strategist Majora Carter has been announced as one of the four speakers for this year’s Case Western Reserve University’s Think Forum lecture series. The event will take place at the Town Hall of Cleveland, and Carter specifically will be speaking on December 1st at 6 p.m. and she’ll be getting into her presentation titled “Department of Hometown Security”. Her talk will be given in partnership with the Office for Sustainability at Case Western Reserve and is expected to be a huge success.
The South Bronx, New York native studied film and got a Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan University in 1984 and went on to pursue environmental projects that would benefit her area’s natural resources. One program which she co-founded, the Bronx River Alliance and SSBx, worked to restore the local river and help people make good choices surrounding food, fitness, and choices of purchasing produce. In 2007, Carter also co-founded Green for All, which is an organization to build a green economy while also benefiting working citizens by helping them get out of poverty.
Carter will be speaking in Ohio later this year to be a part of the Think Forum lecture series being put on by Case Western Reserve University. It should be a very informative evening, so be sure to save the date if you have an interest in attending.
