As the president of the University of Maryland-Baltimore Country, Freeman A. Hrabowski III has been one of America's most respected leaders in education and a champion for diversity. He will share the process behind some of his work as the featured speaker this spring at the Gulf Coast Community Foundation's Better Together luncheon.
Hrabowski will talk about how academic innovation can give greater opportunity for all. He will also talk about fostering high expectations and supportive philanthropy.
The luncheon takes place on March 8 at The Ritz-Carlton in Sarasota, Florida. GCCF will begin to take reservations in January.
From his post at UMBC, Hrabowski promotes diversity in science and math professions. He has headed up the school in 1992 and has won several awards for his leadership.
Time has named him one of the "100 Most Influential People in the World" and one of the "10 Best College Presidents" in the U.S. He was also named one of "America's Best Leaders" by U.S. News & World Report.
Hrabowski's research primarily focuses on minority participating in STEM fields. His efforts to promote inclusion began at an early age and he was jailed for five days at the age of 12 for his participation in Martin Luther King Jr.'s 1963 Children's Crusade.
