Scientists are predicting that a dark matter hurricane will soon come crashing into Earth. Fortunately, this mysterious particle collection will not do any damage, but it will give researchers greater insight into the composition of dark matter.
The Milky Way galaxy has a number of stellar streams that flow through it. These streams are made up of star gatherings that were once clusters or dwarf galaxies.
One of the stellar streams, S1, was discovered last year by scientists looking at data from the Gaia satellite operated by the European Space Agency. It is significant because it passes through the path of our sun.
This S1 dark matter hurricane likely will set off various detectors since it travels through our solar system. If any of them pick up dark matter particles, it could give us unprecedented insights into the universe.
