This week, the University of Oregon has been honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. They even had one of the country's most influential speakers involving race issues, CNN analyst Bakari Sellers, visit.
Sellers was the featured speaker on Tuesday at the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Award Ceremony and Luncheon. He spoke about ways that students can elevate the conversation around them and what actions they can take to promote equality.
RSVPs for the event at the Erb Memorial Union Ballroom were required. There are several other events on campus that run through Monday.
Sellers was a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2006-14. When he was elected, he was 22 years old and the youngest elected African-American politician in the country.
One of Sellers main accomplishments in office was serving as the first vice chairman of the South Carolina Democratic Party. He also has a legal background, working as an attorney with Strom Law Firm since 2007.
Sellers was named to Time's 40 Under 40 list in 2010. He is a graduate of Morehouse College and the South Carolina School of Law.
