Tim Golden Biography

He is a senior writer for The New York Times and a contributor to The New York Times Magazine, and he is now on leave from his job there. He has devoted a large portion of his journalism career to serving as a foreign correspondent, reporting on conflicts in Central and South America, political and economic instability in Mexico, and the upheaval of the 1990s in Cuba and Central America. He has concentrated his investigative reporting on issues of international organized crime, terrorism, and national security. He has won two Pulitzer Prizes for journalism, one for stories that predicted the Iran-Contra affair and the other for coverage of drug trafficking in Mexico. He was a nominee for the Taylor Award for Fairness in Newspapers for his reporting on how the military handled terror suspects at Guantánamo and Bagram. In addition to being a Nieman fellow at Harvard University, he graduated from Dartmouth College. As a Senior Fellow at the New America Foundation, Mr. Golden is researching American prisoner practises in the fight against terrorism as well as other facets of the conflict between constitutional rights and security considerations.
