About Sue Mitchell
Sue Mitchell Biography
In the best-selling book and Oscar-nominated film The Blind Side, Kathy Bates portrays Sue Mitchell as "Miss Sue," who notably helped NFL Ravens #74 Michael Oher go from a.6 GPA to a 2.05 in high school and then a 3.75 Dean's List student in college. Sue Mitchell has worked in teaching for more than 40 years, from the elementary to the collegiate levels. Mitchell, who was born in Memphis, Tennessee, received a Master of Science from the University of Tennessee and a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Mississippi. Sue started her teaching career in Atlanta, Georgia, but after three years she moved back home to Tennessee where she spent 23 years teaching high school, 10 years in middle school, and three years in elementary school. Even when Oher enrolled at Ole Miss, she continued to work with him. In order to be closer to family, Mitchell resigned from teaching and relocated to Oxford, Miss. He then accepted a position as an Ole Miss learning specialist. Mitchell worked for the sports department from 2005 to 2009, teaching Michael Oher and other players with comparable backgrounds. There are so many Michael Ohers out there, she claims. When Michael and the Baltimore Ravens won their first Super Bowl in 2013, Mitchell and the entire Tuohy family were there to support them. Mitchell served as the adviser to the National Champion Bartlett Cheerleaders and is still involved in her sorority, Kappa Delta, as an alumni advisor. Mitchell claims, "I always knew Michael would achieve, but it doesn't make me any less proud. Michael recognized his chance and seized it. In the classroom or on the football field, he was unstoppable once he had the required confidence. Currently, Mitchell may be seen on UP, the network devoted to inspirational entertainment, in the movie Family Addition alongside Leigh Anne Tuohy. The new television program follows families as they go through the logistical, physical, and psychological processes of growing their families. It also helps families remodel a portion of their houses to make room for a new family member.
