James Euchner Biography

He is responsible for the development of new product and business concepts and for exploring emerging technologies of potential interest to Pitney Bowes. Jim is particularly interested in the innovation process and in the customer-centered design of new technologies. He manages an organization that includes not only technologists, but ethnographers, designers and concept prototypers. Areas of current technical focus include: cryptography, network security, Internet technologies, advanced printing and tagging technologies, and technologies at the interface between paper and electronic media.

Prior to his current position, Jim was Vice President, Network Systems Advanced Technology at Bell Atlantic. In that role, he was responsible for the development of advanced operations support systems for building and maintaining the telecommunications network. He managed a wide range of advanced information technologies including expert systems, geographic information systems, groupware, CAD systems, robotics and handheld computing. He began his career at Arco Oil and Gas Company, where he developed instrumentation for operating in hazardous environments.

Jim received his Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University and his Masters from Princeton, both in mechanical engineering. He also holds an MBA from Southern Methodist University. Mr. Euchner is a co-founder of the MIT Lead User Laboratory, a consortium to nurture innovation in organizations. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations working group on the role of the private sector in homeland security and a member of the Technical Advisory Council of the Federal Communications Commission. From 1994 to 1998 he was a member of the Advisory Board for the Institute for Research on Learning in Palo Alto, California. Jim enjoys running, baseball, politics, and playing with his sons Gregory, Richard and Marshall. He and his wife, Nancy, currently live in Waccabuc, New York.
