Bryan Stevenson was born on November 14, 1959 in Milton, Delaware, which clearly inspired him to become a lawyer and later on a civil right activist. He attended Eastern University to acquire a Bachelor’s degree before joining Harvard Law School to study for a Master’s in Public Policy and a J.D.In 1989, Stevenson founded the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI), anonprofit to represent death row inmates, to challenge wrongful convictions, and to push for criminal justice reform. He has been in and out of the Supreme Court for his tireless work, and he has got some of the biggest Supreme Court victories, including the ones that ended mandatory life sentences for juveniles.Stevenson is not only a successful lawyer but also a great speaker who gives motivational speeches that can change the world. His TED Talk, We Need to Talk About an Injustice, has been viewed millions of times and made him a significant voice in the struggle for justice. Stevenson is also the recipient of the MacArthur 'Genius' Grant, the National Humanities Medal, and many other honors.The commitment of Stevenson to the cause of truth and justice is seen in the establishment of the National Memorial for Peace and Justice, the first national memorial to victims of racial terror in the United States. He continues to remain active and is still involved in changing the world and inspiring people to change it as well.
