Former NASA astronaut Jerry Ross has a life that is rich with stories and comes from a unique perspective having traveled more in space than almost anyone else. He will share his one of a kind insights as the featured speaker next month at the International Ideas Festival, being put on by Purdue University.
The half-day event takes place on January 18 at the Taj Santacruz Hotel in Mumbai, India. Ross' keynote is titled, "My Journey as a NASA Astronaut: What IF We Found Evidence of Previous Life on Mars?"
As a Purdue alumnus, Ross was a natural fit to headline the festival. There are several other speakers that will also join him in tackling topics related to space, artificial intelligence, health and sustainability.
Ross was the first person to be sent into space seven times and he logged over 1,393 hours in the cosmos during his career. He is one of just three NASA astronauts to have been involved with the organization prior to its first launch and through its final landing.
Ross ranks third all-time internationally with 58 hours of spacewalks logged. He was instrumental in the creation and maintenance of the International Space Station.
Ross has received the American Astronautical Society's Victor A. Prather Award for spacewalking achievements four times and their Flight Achievement Award three times. He was inducted into the Astronaut Hall of Fame in 2014.
