Due to Kari Byron's long-stint on the popular show, Mythbusters, she is a great advocate for getting people involved in scientific endeavors. She spoke about inspiring another generation to get involved in STEM careers last week at UM-Flint.
Byron was a guest for the school's Critical Issues speaker series at the Ferris Wheel building in downtown Flint. She had plenty of thoughts about Mythbusters and was able to talk about some of the craziest experiences she had doing the show.
During her presentation, Byron also addressed other topics and took audience questions. She encouraged women to pursue leadership roles in science.
Byron appeared on Mythbusters for 12 years and 250 episodes. She has hosted and produced several other science-based shows as well.
Byron is currently the chief creative officer for a line of robots and dolls, Smart Gurlz. This year, she released her first book, "Crash Test Girl, An Unlikely Experiment in Using the Scientific Method to Answer Life's Biggest Questions."
Byron has a background as an artist and sculptor, but got involved with Mythbusters when she got an internship at Jamie Hyneman's M5 Industries. Her expertise ended up coming in handy as a special effects and prop creator.
