Ernest Green has been fighting for equality almost his entire life. His inspiring story of being in the trenches of the civil rights movement as a member of the Little Rock Nine has inspired thousands of people and he will next share his message as the keynote speaker for a special event in North Carolina.
Green is making an appearance on behalf of the Martin Luther King Jr. Association of Asheville and Buncombe County at the 38th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast. The event takes place at 8:30 a.m. on January 19 at the Crowne Plaza Resort.
Tickets to hear Green speak and take part in the special event are available at mlkasheville.org. In addition to the prayer breakfast, the community is holding several other events to commemorate Dr. King.
Green was one of nine brave high school students who integrated Arkansas' Central High School in 1957. He graduated in 1958 and was awarded the NAACP Springarn Medal.
As a young person, Green also became an Eagle Scout and received the Silver Beaver Award. He went on to graduate from Michigan State University with a bachelor's and masters degree.
Green served the Carter and Clinton Administrations in various capacities. He is a partner at Matrix Advisory and on three occasions has been named one of the top 25 African Americans on Wall Street by Black Enterprise magazine.
