Former Navy SEAL Jocko Willink has been a following as one of the most popular motivational speakers today. His tips have helped countless individuals live their best lives and find new ways to achieve success.
One of the keys that Willink preaches revolves around starting your day early. He often talks about the advantages it can give you in life and in the workplace.
Willink himself gets up at 4:30 a.m. and learned this practice of waking up early as a young SEAL. Recently, he shared some tips with CNBC about how people can be early risers.
1. Listen to your body
Willink says it is important to establish the morning wake up time that works for you and be consistent with it.
2. Don't sleep in on Saturday
Part of the success of early risers is that they do not break the pattern. The consistent approach will ensure that you all of a sudden will not wake up tired come Monday morning.
3. Give yourself time to adjust
Willink emphasizes that change does not happen overnight. Getting used to a new routine takes time, so patience is needed until your body adjusts to the new sleep times.
Willink was in the U.S. Navy for 20 years, beginning as an enlisted SEAL and rising to the rank of SEAL officer. He most notably led SEAL Team Three's Task Unit Bruiser during the battle of Ramadi and helped bring stability to the city.
After Willink's time abroad, he returned to become the Officer-in-Charge of training for all SEAL teams on the West Coast. He was the recipient of the Silver Star, Bronze Star and several other decorations prior to his 2010 retirement.
