Elizabeth Smart's abduction story gripped the country in 2002, but she was able to turn a negative into a positive to become one of the world's leading advocates for child safety. She will share her message of hope as the guest speaker for the 2019 Button Ball in Franklin, Tennessee.
The annual event is put on as a fundraiser for the Davis House Child Advocacy Center and it takes place March 2 at The Factory House. There is a cocktail hour at 6 p.m., followed by the formal program at 7 p.m.
Those interested in meeting Smart can do so beforehand at the Hope Patron event. There are limited tickets available, but people can interact with Smart and receive a copy of her book, "My Story."
Smart was originally abducted on June 5, 2002 and her captors threatened to kill her family if she attempted to escape. After nine months in captivity, police rescued her and returned her to her parents.
