Author Angela Duckworth was the commencement speaker for the baccalaureate ceremony at the University of Pennsylvania earlier this year on May 14. The 50-minute program also included music, readings, prayers and Duckworth’s speech which began at 1:30 p.m. and tickets to get in were not required. Parts of her speech included words of inspiration, as she shared how her grit and self-control helped motivate her to achieve everything that she has in her life and career. It was a very memorable event, and Duckworth was a hit with the audience and students listening to her talk. The Ph.D. in psychology went to school and graduated from Harvard College in 1992 where she earned her A.B. in neurobiology. Afterwards, she went on to study and graduated with her Master of Science from the University of Oxford in 1996. Her doctoral degree was earned in 2006 from the University of Pennsylvania, and in 2013 Duckworth was the winner of the MacArthur Genius Fellowship. In addition to that, Dr. Duckworth is an author and her first book titled “Girl: The Power of Passion and Perseverance” which was released in May of last year. Dr. Duckworth recently spoke at the baccalaureate ceremony at the University of Pennsylvania earlier this year in May. It was a very memorable production, and Duckworth’s speech was one that will resonate for a long time to come.
