Scottish politician and former First Minister of Scotland Alex Salmond was announced as the keynote speaker at a major conference in Scotland that is happening later this year. The theme of the conference this year is renewable energy and how the industry was impacted following Brexit. The event is being hosted by the University of Dundee’s Center for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law & Policy. The director of the center, Peter Cameron, stated that during his time in office, Salmond was focused on renewable energy which is why he is the perfect candidate to speak at this function. During his speech, Salmond is expected to point out some of the facts about the Scottish government concerning this topic and how their country will move forward following the departure from the European Union. The West Lothian, Scotland native studied at the Linlithgow Academy and at Edinburgh College of Commerce during the 1970s, just prior to attending the famous University of St. Andrew’s. During his university years, Salmond studied Economics and Medieval History, which were both the focus areas of his studies and degree. His first time in Scottish politics was in 1999 when he was elected to the Scottish Parliament, where he served as one of its highest members. Salmond served as many roles in politics over his career, but most recently he was the First Minister of Scotland, where he was in office from 2007 through 2014. Salmond has been selected to be the keynote speaker for this year’s conference in Scotland that will revolve around the topic of renewable energy. It will no doubt be a memorable event, as this one was of his areas of expertise while he was in office.
