About Yvette Freeman
Yvette Freeman Biography
A number of years ago, Yvette Freeman accomplished one of her greatest feats by losing more than one-third of her body weight. She achieved a goal she intends to stick to by losing weight, which meant she had defeated heart disease and diabetes. Being able to talk about these themes to women from all walks of life, particularly as a National Advocacy Ambassador for the Diabetes Association, has been one of the inspirations along the way. Freeman retains her well-known position as "Nurse Haleh Adams" on the acclaimed NBC series ER in addition to speaking engagements about health issues (diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and being cautious about keeping the weight off). Freeman had the lead role in the Westport Country Playhouse production of the musical "All About Us" in 2007. She will appear as a guest star on a number of TV shows, including Holly Hunter's upcoming Saving Grace. For her portrayal in the off-Broadway production of "Dinah Was" in New York and in Los Angeles, where she also won Best Actress in a Musical from LA Weekly, Freeman is the recipient of an Ovation Award and an NAACP Award. Freeman's father, the jazz pianist Charles Freeman, inspired her passion for performing. She earned a BA in art and theatre from the University of Delaware. With her first significant appearance in the Broadway smash "Ain't Misbehavin'," which made use of her incredible singing voice, the theatre became her life. This led to roles on stage, on television, and in feature films. The First National, Paris, and International productions of "Ain't Misbehavin'" included Freeman as the lead actor. Elegies for Angel Punks and Raging Queens, Nunsense, Show Boat, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and Member of the Wedding are just a few of Freeman's numerous stage performances. The Wiz, Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope, Voices, Inc., and "Mademoiselle Rose" are examples of national and international touring company productions. These performances have been seen in China and Monte Carlo. Freeman has spent 14 seasons as "Nurse Adams" on the NBC program ER. She has also appeared as a guest star in various programs, including Sisters, Nip/Tuck, Presidio Med, That's Life, Boston Public, Judging Amy, NYPD Blue, and many others. She has appeared in the films Angus Bethune, Switch, Dead Again, Children of the Corn III, and Dead Again. She appeared in the HBO film Norma and Marilyn as well. With the release of The Blessing Way, Freeman completed the Director's Workshop for Women program at the American Film Institute, adding director to her list of accomplishments. She later wrote, produced, and directed a number of short films, including the Alzheimer's-themed Remember, which won numerous accolades, including Best Short Story at the Moondance 2004 Film Festival. The Making of a Global Village, a documentary about the beneficial impact of African dance in a Los Angeles neighborhood, was another short film. She created the flicks The Confused Toad and Hideous Scream for the website instantfilms.tv.
