Vlade Divac Biography

Vlade Divac is a Serbian professional basketball executive and retired player who now serves as the Sacramento Kings' vice president of basketball operations and general manager. Divac played in the National Basketball Association for the most of his career. He played center and was recognized for his passing talents, standing 2.16 m (7 ft 1 in). In the late 1980s, he was among the first set of European basketball players to transfer to the NBA, and he was designated one of the 50 Greatest EuroLeague Contributors. Along with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Tim Duncan, Shaquille O'Neal, Kevin Garnett, Pau Gasol, and Hakeem Olajuwon, he is one of seven players in NBA history to have 13,000 points, 9,000 rebounds, 3,000 assists, and 1,500 blocked shots. Divac was also the first player born and raised outside of the United States to appear in over 1,000 NBA games. On August 20, 2010, he was admitted into the FIBA Hall of Fame for his contributions to international basketball. Divac is well-known for his basketball skills, but he is also a humanitarian who works with children in his home nation of Serbia and in Africa. He was hired as a government adviser on humanitarian issues in Serbia in October 2008. He was elected President of the Serbian Olympic Committee for a four-year term in February 2009, and he was re-elected in November 2012. Divac was inducted into the World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame in 2013.
