Tom Richardson Biography

Tom graduated from the University of Miami with a BBA (cum laude) in business management in 1980 and an MBA in 1982. In December 2000 and August 2001, he delivered the graduation addresses at the Graduate School of Business at the University of Arizona and the School of Business Administration at the University of Miami, respectively. As a member of Arthur Andersen's management consulting group, Tom started his professional career in 1982. Before departing in 1988 to launch his own information consulting business, The Systems Consulting Group, Inc., he received two promotions (SCG). In his role as president, Tom guided SCG from its inception to more than $30 million in sales in just 7 years, twice reaching INC. Magazine's list of the nation's fastest-growing firms. Profitable each year of its existence, SCG expanded on a $150 incorporation fee without the aid of outside funding. SCG had 200 consultants working out of locations in Miami, Chicago, and San Juan by 1995, all thanks to organic growth. Blue chip customers like M&M Mars, Quaker Oats, Bell Atlantic, Ryder System, and Burger King, as well as the top people in the business, were attracted to and retained by SCG in large part thanks to the strategy Tom and his partners utilized to develop and cultivate partnerships. SCG was a highly sought-after acquisition target for many larger consulting firms due to its quantifiable success, the dominance of the South Florida and Latin American markets, and its extremely alluring services offering. Cambridge Technology Partners eventually acquired SCG in 1995 through a stock swap transaction valued at $30 million. Tom joined Cambridge's executive team and oversaw its global Application Services Division until March 1997, when he decided to once more pursue his entrepreneurial pursuits. Tom has worked on numerous businesses since leaving Cambridge, and he is currently a shareholder in P&O Packaging, a plastics company, Firehouse Four, a popular restaurant in Miami, The Radisson Riverwalk Hotel in Jacksonville, Horizon Bank, a new community bank that he helped found and sits on the board of directors of, and Infinet (a new media design company). Tom co-founded Entente Investment Inc. in August 1999, with the aim of making investments in companies that provide information systems consulting services.
