Tom McCarthy Biography

Sportscaster Tom McCarthy is from the United States. The men's and women's basketball teams at Saint Joseph's University have used McCarthy as their play-by-play announcer. McCarthy worked for the Philadelphia Phillies for five seasons, serving as both their pre- and post-game radio host and play-by-play announcer. For six seasons, McCarthy worked as the Double-A Trenton Thunder's play-by-play broadcaster. Additionally, he has provided the play-by-play voice for national football and basketball broadcasts on the CBS Sports Network (formerly known as CSTV), the Atlantic 10 TV network Westwood One, and the Sports USA Radio Network in addition to Rutgers University football. McCarthy accepted a five-year contract to return to Philadelphia after working for the National League East rival New York Mets on WFAN for the previous two seasons. McCarthy started doing television play-by-play full-time when Harry Kalas passed away. McCarthy is one of only three broadcasters to regularly cover both the Mets and the Phillies (the others being Tim McCarver and Todd Kalas).
