Cleveland Clinic's previous CEO and the president is Dr. Toby Cosgrove. He presently works with Cleveland Clinic leadership as an executive advisor to develop growth plans for the country and beyond.  Williams College and the University of Virginia School of Medicine both awarded degrees to Dr. Cosgrove. Brook General Hospital in London and Massachusetts General Hospital served as his training facilities. He received a Bronze Star while serving as a surgeon in the U.S. Air Force in 1967. Dr. Cosgrove started working at Cleveland Clinic in 1975, and from 1989 to 2004, he served as the department's chair. He accomplished more than 22000 surgeries and established a global reputation for valve repair. He is the owner of 30 medical invention patents. As CEO from 2004 until 2017, he modernized the organization's offerings, enhanced patient outcomes, and experiences, and increased its financial position. In addition to being a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors, he is a member of the National Academy of Medicine. He received the 2016 Fortune Businessperson of the Year award (No. 14). He has provided healthcare advice to three U.S. presidents in succession.
