San Antonio, Texas, native Summer Glau, a classically trained ballet dancer, made her acting debut in 2002 with a guest appearance on Angel (playing a ballet dancer). Her career has primarily been built on strong women and hurt young women in science fiction and fantasy stories. Executive Joss Whedon saw her work in Angel and eventually cast her as River Tam in his critically acclaimed but short-lived TV series Firefly, a role she recreated for the series' component film spinoff Serenity. Before meeting Joss Whedon, Glau just auditioned for the position of a Power Ranger in Power Rangers Wild Force. Glau arrived on the site of the Cold Case TV episode Love Conquers Al. In the January 13, 2008 release of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Glau played Cameron Phillips, a Terminator invasion unit sent back to protect John and Sarah Connor from Skynet. The sixth scene in the play The Demon Hand brought to mind a couple of passages in which Glau, playing Cameron, performs a graceful dance. The 2009 scene The Terminator Decoupling from the second season of the CBS situation comedy The Big Bang Theory also features Glau as a guest star.
