Steven Rodney McQueen CBE is a screenwriter and director from the United Kingdom. He won an Academy Award for Best Picture, a BAFTA for Best Film, and a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture " Drama as a maker for his 2013 film 12 Years a Slave, a true dramatization adaptation of an 1853 slave account journal. He also received the New York Film Critics Circle's Best Director award. McQueen is the first dark producer to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture. McQueen's previous feature films include Hunger, a historical depiction of the 1981 Irish hunger strike. Shame, a drama about an official struggling with sex addiction, and Widows, a spine chilling film about a group of ladies who vow to accomplish the crime their spouses died attempting. McQueen majority of the time works along with on-screen figure Michael Fassbender who has participated in three of McQueen's component films. McQueen received the Turner Prize for his fine art, the highest accolade bestowed upon a British visual creator. In 2006, he launched Queen and Country, which commemorates the deaths of British troops in Iraq by releasing stamps with their images. In 2011, he was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire for his contributions to visual expression.
