Stafford The New York City Marathon was run by Olivia Palmieri. Her objective is to run 10-minute miles and finish the event in under four and a half hours. She has undoubtedly gone a long way in a short period of time. She placed her possessions in a U-Haul and moved 1,500 miles in October 2010 to exchange work at a Washington, D.C. think tank for a position as Gov. Bobby Jindal's education and workforce policy advisor. She was promoted to policy director in December 2011. Her department of seven advisers works on policy choices and initiatives involving the Cabinet, communications, legal, and operational departments. Her major effort was developing the 2012 education reform legislation and shepherding the package through the state Legislature. Palmieri's influence in Baton Rouge goes beyond the Capitol. Despite her 70-hour workweek, she volunteers via the Junior League at Our Lady of the Lake Children Center and has revitalized the Yale Alumni chapter. The transplanted Northerner has developed a fondness for the Bayou State for reasons other than its pleasant environment for year-round jogging. I'm a passionate person, but Louisiana has mellowed me down a little, she says.
