She has quickly established herself as a respected researcher in peacekeeping and peacebuilding, African governmental issues, global relations, and the legislative issues of philanthropic and advancement support. She is a collaborator educator of political theory at Barnard College, Columbia University. The Trouble with the Congo: Local Violence and the Failure of International Peacebuilding, Autesserre's Grawemeyer Award-winning book published by Cambridge University Press in 2010, concluded her research in the Congo. The book also received the 2011 Chadwick-Alger Award from the International Studies Association. She collaborates with Columbia University's Salzman Institute for War and Peace Studies and Institute of African Studies and works in Barnard's Africana studies department.
