Sarah Vinson Biography

Three-time board-certified physician Dr. Sarah Y. Vinson specializes in adult, child & adolescent, and forensic psychiatry. She is the founder and rotation director of the Psychiatry Mini-Rotation for pediatric interns at Morehouse School of Medicine, where she also holds the position of Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics. Dr. Vinson has written book chapters on the social determinants of children's mental health, child trauma, social media and children's mental health, and fostering resilience. She is the co-editor of two texts, Social (In)Justice and Mental Health and Pediatric Mental Health for Primary Care Providers. She improved ties with the neighborhood pediatric community while serving on the board of the Georgia Council on Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She has organized CME activities and delivered speeches at several conferences for young people. She has also had experience working alongside pediatric clinicians, offering integrated care services and advice. The Lorio Psych Group, an Atlanta, Georgia-based mental health facility offering professional care and consulting, was founded by Dr. Vinson. Florida A&M University awarded Dr. Vinson the Summa Cum Laude diploma. After completing her general psychiatry residency at Cambridge Health Alliance/Harvard Medical School, she earned Research Honors from the University of Florida College of Medicine and was inducted into the Chapman Humanism Honors Society. She also received specialist trauma training via the Victims of Violence Program while she was there. She thereafter traveled back to the South where she finished fellowships at Emory University School of Medicine in both child and adolescent and forensic psychiatry. Additionally, Dr. Vinson is the head of the Child Subcommittee on the 24-member Behavioral Health Reform and Innovation Commission, which was appointed by the governor of Georgia.
