Patricia E. Harris is the CEO of Bloomberg Philanthropies, a data-driven organization that manages all of Michael R. Bloomberg's charitable donations. As CEO, Harris strives to guarantee that the largest number of people live better, longer lives by focusing on five major program areas: arts, education, environment, government innovation, and public health. Bloomberg Philanthropies improves people's lives across the country and around the world by inventing, supporting, and incubating programs. Previously, under the Bloomberg administration, Harris served as the City of New York's First Deputy Mayor. She is the first woman to hold this post, which is the city's highest appointed position, in New York City's history. Harris headed Bloomberg L.P.'s Corporate Communications Department, leading its Philanthropy, Public Relations, and Governmental Affairs departments, before entering the Bloomberg Administration in 2002. Prior to that, she worked at Serino Coyne Advertising as Vice President of Public Relations. She began her career in public service in 1977 as an assistant to then-Congressman Ed Koch, and after Koch's election as Mayor, she worked in his administration in a variety of capacities, including as Executive Director of the City's Art Commission.
