Mike McLaughlin Biography

Mike McLaughlin is a former Xfinity Series driver for NASCAR. McLaughlin, often known as Magic Shoes, was a fan favorite who won the Most Popular Driver title in 1997. In the Xfinity Series, he also had multiple wins and top-five finishes in the points standings. McLaughlin made his Xfinity Series debut at the Mello Yello 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway in 1984, finishing 14th in the #73 Pontiac. That season, he competed in one more race, the Charlotte event in October. Unfortunately, mechanical issues cut short his day. The next season, he raced twice more, finishing eleventh each time. He subsequently moved up to NASCAR Modified for Bill Corazzo's Sherwood Racing, which was handled by Clyde McLeod. Corazzo's crew featured his nephew Greg Zipadelli, who went on to win Sprint Cup championships as a crew chief, and Greg's younger brother Scott Zipadelli, who is now also a notable NASCAR crew chief. Mike won the Winston Modified Tour, which is now known as the Whelen Modified Tour, in 1988. In the modified series, he has a total of sixteen victories. In the Busch North Series, he also drove for Harry and Mike Greci, earning third in points in 1993. At New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Mike became the first driver to win both ends of a Modified/Busch North doubleheader.
