You either get with the program or be left behind when you grow up in a household of eight kids under a "cozy" middle-class roof. My siblings and sisters' every success and tantrum taught me what to do - and what not to do. Maybe that's why my pals came to me with their difficulties when I was a teenager. The notion of becoming a psychologist appealed to me. Even at that age, I could see that reminding my friends of their abilities and contributions to the world wasn't enough to boost their self-esteem. They still kept resisting and beating themselves up. I was debating whether or not being a psychologist was the best option for me to genuinely help people. When it was time for me to go to college, I turned to my father for guidance. Dad was an engineer, and the engineers' black-and-white capacity to solve issues and produce real results appealed to me. I realized I'd have to completely immerse myself if I wanted to be an engineer. I went to Worcester Polytechnic Institute alongside my brother to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. Being Seen But Not Heard, It was at WPI that I first realized how important it was to be genuinely SEEN and HEARD. Mostly due to the fact that I wasn't. In a class of 19 chemical engineering applicants, I was one of three women. On the surface, I seemed confident, but on the inside, I was scared to ask questions. I privately thought that I had deceived everyone and that I wasn't as intelligent as my classmates. As I entered corporate America and worked in an all-male technical setting, my anxiety of being a fraud continued. I recall numerous meetings where the supervisor would say, "someone should record the minutes," and my male coworkers would all swivel their heads in my way, expecting that the only woman in the room would be the secretary. Over the following 18 years, I rose through the ranks of Fortune 500 firms, from engineering to management to sales, earning top sales honors along the way. However, something was always lacking. I wanted my career to be more meaningful and to make a difference! I couldn't shake the notion that I was supposed to do something larger. It became obvious that it was time to STAND OUT, not just to be SEEN and HEARD for my own inner force and skill. It gradually dawned on me that for the first thirty years of my life, I'd been pursuing a route that had been instilled in me via generations. Without any knowledge or choice, I'd been doing what I felt I was meant to do. Creating a Shift in Attitude, When I divorced and became a single mother, I had a strong desire to protect my child. And it was via this instinct that my own incredible ability to transform began to emerge. For the first time, I launched my own business as a Success Coach, pursuing my hobbies. Through Gary Craig, I got certified in the mind-body methods of EFT/Tapping and Hypnotherapy. This is where I channeled my inner engineer archetype. My job as an engineer was to synthesis huge volumes of data with the express purpose of using it to get a quantifiable outcome. So, until I reached expert rank, I consumed hundreds of case studies on this amazing mind-body Tapping Technique. Within the first year, two things were obvious. To begin with, it was wonderful to witness my coaching clients radically shift, let go of their limits, and move ahead. Something significant was going to occur. I began dating a brilliant, imaginative man in the area of Energy Medicine. Rhys Thomas (now my husband) would push me to go farther than the Tapping Technique. Engineering A rock legend, When I think of all the bright, heart-centered clients I've encountered over the years – who, like me, had finally started following their passions but were still locked in their restricted programming, making a limited impact and earning a similarly terrible limited salary – it drives me insane. My engineering brain understood this was a conundrum I needed to solve, and now I had the means to do it! For me, the outcomes were a quantum jump! The first step was to ELIMINATE my generational conditioning. The next stage was for me to ACTIVATE my inner strength and transform into a genuine Rockstar on a Mission. I discovered the drive, charisma, and bravery to take my art to the next level. I went from a struggling solo entrepreneur to developing a firm worth just under a million dollars in just four years. I was able to CREATE a prosperous, meaningful, and impactful life.
