Joe Perry of Aerosmith was fully accountable for inspiring thousands of teenagers in the 1970s and beyond to pick up guitars and start rocking and rolling. Aerosmith was formed shortly after, with Perry on guitar, Tyler on singing, Hamilton on rhythm guitar, Joey Kramer on drum beats, & Ray Tabano on second guitar (later replaced by Brad Whitford). The band released their first album on Columbia in 1973, combining the blues grit of the Stones and Yardbirds with the intense riffing of Led Zeppelin. Aerosmith would become one of the world's most popular rock bands by the late 1970s. Perry left the band during the recording of Night in the Ruts in 1979, and soon after formed his own band, the Joe Perry Project. A year later, the band released an inspired but largely unnoticed debut, Let the Music Do the Talking. Despite the fact that the new band was promising, it disbanded, and Perry was going bankrupt. With Aerosmith's career waning, Perry reconciled with Tyler and reformed the classic Aerosmith lineup by 1984. RUN-surprise DMC's hit (a remake of Aerosmith's Walk This Way) led to an immediate resurgence in their fame. Aerosmith was back at the top of the rock world by the late 1980s, with hit albums like Permanent Vacation, Pump, and Get a Grip.
