Gretchen Wilson is a vocalist who specializes in country music. In March 2004, she released her first song, Redneck Woman. Wilson also released a Christmas CD in 2013, titled Christmas in My Heart, which contained her renditions of holiday favorites such as I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas, Silent Night, and Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas. Wilson has won several honors, including the Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance in 2005, the CMA Female Vocalist of the Year Award in 2005, the ACM Top Female Vocalist Award in 2004, and the ACM Top New Artist Award in 2004. Wilson sang the National Anthem at the Republican National Convention (RNC) in 2008, describing the event for a once opportunity at a historic moment. Wilson also played at a campaign event for John McCain and Sarah Palin's presidential ticket in Cincinnati, Ohio, the same year. Wilson is a philanthropist who has collected over $1.5 million for children's organizations including Make-A-Wish and St. Jude's through benefit concerts. Wilson was the national spokesman for Country Bands Together, an Allergan-sponsored national obesity education, counseling, and support program. She advocated for adult education after dropping out of high school and earning her GED through an adult education college in 2008.
