Eavan Boland Biography

Eavan Boland is an award-winning Irish poet and author and has been teaching at Stanford University since 1995. She has been considered a leader in Irish literature and her work heavily deals with the Irish national identity and role of women in Irish history.
Boland was born in Dublin Ireland and much of her inspiration for her poems comes from her Irish heritage. Her first book of poetry titled New Territory was published in 1967. Since then she has published nearly 40 inspiring books he most recent being A Woman Without A Country. Her work is world renowned and she has received the Lannan Award for Poetry as well as an American Ireland Fund Literary Award.
Boland has spent years sharing her knowledge and expertise in the classroom. She is currently a tenured professor and the Director of Creative Writing Program at Stanford University. Boland has also taught at Trinity College and University College in Dublin as well as Bowdoin College and was a member of the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa.
