Cheryl Hickey Biography

Cheryl Hickey gets up close and personal with some of the hottest celebrities in the world as the host of one of Canada's most popular entertainment news programmes. Cheryl crisscrosses North America, from the ET Canada set in Toronto to the Bahamas, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles, to give viewers an intimate look into the entertainment world. Cheryl has always been engaged in entertainment since she was a child. Cheryl realised broadcast journalism was her vocation at the age of 15, when she landed a volunteer job at a small cable station in the "metropolis" of Owen Sound, Ontario. She worked for the station's community section throughout the summer, pulling cable, operating the teleprompter, delivering public service announcements, and even reporting on local events. Cheryl got her first job as a Summer Events Reporter/City Hall Reporter/News Anchor at The Mix 106.5 in Owen Sound after graduating from Fanshawe College's Broadcast Journalism Television-Radio Program in London, Ontario. Her true calling was television, so she joined the group at the New VR in Barrie as a writer for the 6 p.m. news after a year and a half. Cheryl studied the ins and outs of the broadcast profession — from operating a camera to editing and producing, and the final hurdle... on-air presenting – with a continual desire to improve her job. Hickey joined Global Television in May 1999 as a photographer (videographer) and a helicopter reporter for Global News. She was Canada's sole female pilot who fired, swapped, and reported from the air. She laid down the camera in 2001 and began reporting and anchoring the entertainment beat, which featured the hottest celebrities and allowed audiences to rub shoulders with Hollywood's elite.  Hickey has hosted the Toronto Film Event for the past two years and produced the documentary special 10 Wired Days, a behind-the-scenes look at the festival. She hosts the ET Canada pre-show for each award ceremony during the season, as well as the Rolling Stones benefit event, the Toronto Molson Indy, and the documentary series Last Chance for Romance. Hickey's passion is to assist others, particularly children, and she donates her time to a number of children's organisations as well as serving as a spokeswoman for the Lupus Foundation and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
