Bofta Yimam Biography

Bofta Yimam is the weekend morning anchor of Pittsburgh's Action News 4, and a weekday reporter in the field on Pittsburgh's Action News 4 This Morning. She has been honored for her work nearly every year in her career, including a Regional Emmy Award and the prestigious Edward R. Murrow award.

The Maryland native started her career after she packed up her Honda and moved to Dalton, Ga. Since then, she's experienced journalism adventures across the southeast, mid-south and now, the northeast. She most recently moved from Memphis, Tennessee.

Before working in Memphis, Bofta was a Weekend Anchor/Reporter at 13 WMAZ in Macon, Georgia. She exposed botched police investigations, unfair discipline policies and Macon's gang problem.

During her career, Bofta has reported on everything from a law firm explosion caused by a disgruntled client to a police chief who bought off voters to win his election. She covered the 2010 gubernatorial race in Atlanta and tackled Federal court cases, including a local ponzi couple charged in connection with a million-dollar investment fraud.

She's shared stories of survival and loss after EF-4 twisters, followed the execution of a triple-murderer and investigated massage parlors involved in possible sex trades, including trafficking of young girls.

Some of her investigative pieces have led to policy changes, used as tools for law enforcement training and helped police lock up wanted criminals. She most recently won a Midsouth Regional Emmy for excellence in "Continuing Coverage." Her report led to Governor Bill Haslam signing a Tennessee law to keep convicted aggravated rapists in prison for their full sentence.

Bofta is a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park. During college, she studied abroad in Seville, Spain, and interned at "Good Morning America."

When she's not in front of the camera, Bofta enjoys traveling, singing, trying new recipes, cheering on her 'Skins, volunteering and spending time with family/friends.
