Ambarish Mitra is Founder & CEO of Blippar. He co-founded the company in 2011 with a vision to create a 'physical world browser' using image recognition technologies that would enhance the real world with rich content and drive a new consumer behaviour “to blipp”.

Mitra is regarded as one of the pioneers of Augmented Reality and has been instrumental in driving brands and publishers to amplify the reach of their traditional media and products into full on interactive channels.

Under Mitra’s direction, Blippar has grown from groundbreaking idea to a globally trading company that is the leader in consumer Augmented Reality with 200+ employees, 10 offices and 50million+ users post its recent acquisition of Layar. For its revolutionary approach, Blippar has been recognized as one of the fasted growing companies by Mobile World Congress, Ernst & Young, PWC, CNN, CNBC, UKTI, Forbes, Fast Company and more.

Mitra has been recognised for his unconventional business thinking and people-driven philosophical approach to management. Prior to launching Blippar, Mitra started his tech career in 1997 as a high school drop-out entrepreneur on a noble topic of Women Empowerment in India - womeninfoline.com which successfully IPO'd in year 2000. Post moving to UK he helped many UK based retails into successful e-tails. He was the 3rd employee in a travel startup isango, which was sold to Thomas Cook. He founded a social network called Stuck allowing people to vent their stuck moments in life. In 2009 as Head of Innovation at AXA Insurance he was the driving force behind their mobile strategy. In 2011 awarded Insurance IT Leader of the Year, by Post Strategic Technology Forum.
