AJ Jacobs Biography

AJ Jacobs is an Esquire magazine editor at large and the author of three New York Times bestsellers. The Know-It-All was released by Simon & Schuster in 2004. It then went eight weeks on the New York Times bestseller list for paperbacks. Time, Newsweek, Vanity Fair, USA Today, Janet Maslin of the New York Times, and AJ's uncle Henry on Amazon.com all complimented it. The Year of Living Biblically was published in 2007. Publishers Weekly, Kirkus Reviews, The New York Times Book Review, the Los Angeles Times, USA Today, and others complimented it, and it lasted three months on the New York Times bestseller list. It was published in Penthouse as well as on the cover of the Christian magazine Relevant. Jacobs is proud of his ability to bring people together rather than separate them. His book My Life as an Experiment: One Man's Humble Quest to Improve Himself will be released in paperback in the summer of 2010. Some previously published experiments are included in the book (including My Outsourced Life, Jacobs quest to delegate every task in his life to India). It also contains novel experiments, such as life-changing quests based on George Washington's life principles, marriage harmony, marital discord, multitasking, and nudity - not necessarily in that order. (The Guinea Pig Diaries was published in hardcover in 2009.) In addition to his books, Jacobs has contributed to The New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, New York magazine, and Dental Economics magazine, which is one of the top five publications dedicated to the financial aspects of dental treatment. He's been on Oprah, The Today Show, Good Morning America, and Late Night with Conan O'Brien, among other shows (though Conan did decline Jacobs offer to bring the remnants of his shaved beard in a plastic bag). He appears on NPR's Weekend Edition Saturday on a regular basis, where he talks about interesting facts like the fact that opossums have 13 nipples. Paramount Pictures is presently developing The Year of Living Biblically, while Universal Pictures is developing My Outsourced Life. He's now working on a book titled The World's Healthiest Human Being. It's the next installment in Jacob's experiential journalism series, in which he seeks to improve his physical condition while also delving into the meaning of the term healthiest. Jacobs was born and raised in New York City. His father is a lawyer who holds the record for the most footnotes in a law review paper in the world (4,824). His wife works at Watson Adventures, a high-end treasure hunt. His family and he lives in New York.
