Dyson's January 25 appearance centered on the country's political climate and he spoke at length about the last two U.S. presidents. He shared thoughts on Barack Obama's handling of race while in the White House and also talked about Donald Trump's reelection chance.
There were over 600 people in attendance to hear Dyson's commentary at the Redbird Arena. Prior to the event, he spoke with ISU students, faculty and the news media.
Dyson is a professor of sociology at Georgetown University and has taught at many of the nation's prestigious institutions. He is a contributing opinion writer for the New York Times and a contributing editor for the New Republic and The Undefeated.
Dyson has authored over 20 books, most of them related to some of history's most prominent African-Americans. He has won three NAACP Image Awards for his writing.
Dyson has hosted radio programs and been a television commentator for networks like MSNBC. He holds a master's and Ph.D. from Princeton University.
