In 2003, Scott left his regular job to focus solely on writing. The New York Times, The Washington Post, Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, The Guardian, Wired magazine, National Public Radio, The Huffington Post, and other publications have published his writing and public speaking work. In addition to blogging for Harvard Business and BusinessWeek and often appearing as an innovation expert on CNBC and MSNBC, he has taught at the University of Washington. The Myths of Innovation, a book on the real lessons we can learn from the masters on creativity and managing innovation, and Making things happen (formerly known as The Art of Project Management), are two of his three best-selling books. Confessions of a Public Speaker is a memoir and how-to guide on speaking in public effectively. He routinely delivers keynote addresses at Fortune 500 businesses, universities, events, and even on the living room sofa. He exists on the royalties from his books and his income from speaking engagements. Scott was up in Queens, New York City, and attended Carnegie Mellon University to study design, philosophy, and computer science before earning a B.S. in Logic and Computation (94). From 1994 until 2003, he was employed at Microsoft as a program manager on initiatives including Internet Explorer versions 1.0 through 5.0, Windows, and MSN. He resides outside Seattle, Washington, someplace in a forest.
