About Gloria Reuben

Gloria Reuben Biography

Over the past decade, Reuben has amassed impressive credentials as a regular fixture on network television, starred in numerous films, performed in a highly-touted off-Broadway production, toured with one of pop music's most celebrated divas, and now she's adding recording artist to her cachet with the release of her debut solo record, Just For You.

Most television vision viewers will remember Reuben as the attractive health care professional Jeanie Boulet who traumatically battled HIV/Aids in the NBC-TV hit series, ER, a role that garnered her multiple Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe nomination in a five-year run from 1994-2000. She debuted in film, when she starred opposite Jean Claude Van Damme in Time Cop and Johnny Depp in John Badham's Nick of Time. And in between a slew of other television projects, The Young Riders, The Round Table, China Beach and, in 1993 three episodes of the Baltimore-based Homicide: Life on the Street, she later starred in the critically acclaimed off-Broadway production of Eve Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues." Then in 2000, Reuben extended her burgeoning career into contemporary music, by singing back up on the North American leg of Tina Turner's "24/7"concert tour.

In 2003 the Canadian born actress/singer shuttled between co-starring in the Lions Gate/Life Time Television dramatic series, 1-800-MISSING (as a no-nonsense FBI agent), and a 16-hour-a-day shooting schedule in Toronto, to record her CD in New York on every spare weekend she could muster. In addition, Reuben tacked on an Associate Producer credit on the show, and performed the series theme song, "This Dream Is Real", that was co-written (the lyrics) with veteran songwriter Andy Chase. The track also appears on her new CD. While Reuben's acting career has always been on the fast track, her love for music has only sporadically surfaced. Touring with Tina Turner ignited a spark though, so she started taking guitar lessons, and decided to demo a few songs. "There's always been a desire within me to make a record about the variations and mysteries of love," says Reuben.

So, during a time when the music industry has been sending out mixed messages to aspiring new artist's, Reuben opted instead to take the plunge, anchored both feet, and decided to finance her own record. She enlisted Grammy-Award winning songwriter/producer Barry Eastmond (Anita Baker, Britney Spears, Whitney Houston, to name a few) to produce the CD's nine tracks.

Reuben has never lacked motivation, and her thirst and hunger for the arts and performing started when she was still in her single digits. Her mother, an accomplished singer, helped nurture and develop her broad base of talents. Before her teens, Reuben was playing piano, studying music technique and theory, and later studied ballet and jazz at the Canadian Royal Conservatory. She also managed to squeeze in a brief fling as a model, before relocating to Los Angeles. Upon arriving in Hollywood, she landed a national television commercial, and the residuals kept her afloat, allowing her to quit her job and commit to acting full time.

And since then, there has been no turning back. Some of her other television credits include, the CBS series The Agency, and a list of major television movies such as, Showtime's Feast Of All Saints, the CBS mini-series, Innocent Blood: The True Story of the Salem Witch Trials, (opposite Shirley MacLaine), HBO's Indiscreet, (with Luke Perry), Soul Survivor, (with Billy Zane) Percy and Thunder, (with James Earl Jones) for TNT, and CBS-TV's Deep In My Heart, (with Ann Bancroft). In 1996, while on hiatus from ER, she even managed to take creative writing classes at Oxford University.

Reuben's rollercoaster ride from one art form to another shows no sign of slowing down. Along with singing the Canadian National Anthem at the 2003 NBA All-Star game, Reuben starred in director Greg Lombardo's independent film, Macbeth in Manhattan and Michael Almereyda's film, Happy Here And Now, (opposite Ally Sheedy and David Arquette), and joined Michael Feinstein for his holiday gala performance to close out 2002. She also enjoys singing the Star Spangled Banner for the New York Giants on many Sundays during the NFL season.

Most recently, Reuben co-starred in a film called The Sentinel with Keifer Sutherland and Michael Douglas, which will be released in the spring/summer of 2006. She is currently starring in a film called The Wedding Project that is being written and directed by the critically acclaimed husband/wife British team David Conolly and Hannah Davis.

Reuben spends a great deal of time working on behalf of the causes she feels the most compelled to support. On December 1st 2004, she was honored to introduce Kofi Annan at the UN AIDS Day ceremony at the renowned and beautiful Cathedral, St. John the Divine, in Harlem. During 2005, Reuben spoke at the Planned Parenthood introduction to their collaboration with the Rights Have No Borders project. Reuben will join Rights Have No Borders on a trip to Jamaica in March 2006 to promote and support awareness and education for HIV/AIDS and women's healthcare issues. On World AIDS Day in 2005, Reuben was the keynote speaker at the first Black Women's Conference on HIV/AIDS in Los Angeles. She has also been an avid supporter for the Elilzabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, Planned Parenthood, and ANSA (Artists for a new South Africa).

A gifted actress, exciting vocalist and committed activist on social issues, Reuben brings energy and enthusiasm to every audience.
