Yvonna Cagle Biography

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) astronaut Dr. Yvonne Darlene Cagle also serves as a consultant professor for the electrical engineering and cardiovascular medicine departments at Stanford University. In addition, Dr. Cagle has experience as a certified teacher for advanced cardiac life support as well as a senior aviation medical examiner for the Federal Aviation Administration. Dr. Cagle presently serves as NASA's Commercial Reusable Suborbital Research program's lead scientist for the Level II Program Office. She was given the responsibilities of managing strategic connections for Google and other Silicon Valley programmatic collaborations as well as serving as Stanford's main astronaut scientific liaison. Her innovative work protects NASA heritage data and strengthens NASA's leadership in global mapping, renewable energy, green programs, and disaster preparedness. Dr. Cagle graduated from San Francisco State University with a bachelor's degree before obtaining her medical degree from the University of Washington. She finished both her family practice residency at Ghent Family Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia and her internship at Highland General Hospital in Oakland, California. Dr. Cagle started her medical career as a qualified flight surgeon. She has since earned the National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, United States Air Force Air Staff Exceptional Physician Commendation, and National Technical Association Distinguished Scientist Award. She actively participated in a range of aeromedical missions that required giving medical support and rescue. As a consultant for space telemedicine, Dr. Cagle has provided continual data to the longitudinal research on astronaut health. The Texas Medical Center National Center for Human Performance has Dr. Cagle on its advisory board. She went to Russia as a representative of the NASA Working Group to set global guidelines for astronaut medical care. Additionally, she has had a position on the University of California, Davis, Volunteer Family Practice Clinical Faculty.
