Wendy Lawrence Biography

Wendy Lawrence, a former NASA astronaut, and captain of the United States Navy is a designer pilot of helicopters. She participated in the STS-67, STS-86, STS-91, and STS-114 space transfer missions. Engineering Lawrence became a Naval Aviator after earning a Master of Science in Oceanography from the US Naval Academy. During this period, he amassed more than 1500 hours of flying time in six different types of helicopters and made more than 800 shipboard landings. From MIT and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Lawrence also received a Master of Science in Ocean Engineering. In 1992, she was a NASA space explorer prep candidate. Lawrence's first space mission, STS-67 aboard the space shuttle Discovery, marked the end of the Shuttle/Mir program, which served as a precursor to the International Space Station. This significant journey marks the second time the ASTRO observatory—a stunning addition of three telescopes—has been utilized to focus cosmic perceptions on the brilliant, ominous areas. The sixth strategic transfer to the Mir space station was STS-86 on board the Atlantis. Because of her extensive engagement with Mir frameworks and team move coordination, Lawrence stepped in as a Mission Specialist on this trip. The final Shuttle/Mir docking operation was STS-91. On board Discovery, Lawrence filled in as the mission specialist for this voyage.
