Professor of Epidemiology and Nutrition at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Walter C. Willett, M.D., Dr. P.H. Dr. Willett studied food science at Michigan State University before attending the University of Michigan Medical School and earning a Masters and Doctorate in Public Health from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Dr. Willett has spent the last 40 years developing and evaluating methodologies for studying the impact of food on the incidence of various illnesses, utilizing both questionnaire and biochemical approaches. He began using these approaches in the Nurses' Health Studies I and II, as well as the Health Professionals Follow-up Study, in 1980. These cohorts, which comprise over 300,000 men and women who have had repeated dietary evaluations, provide the most thorough evidence on the long-term health implications of food choices. Dr. Willett has developed the textbook Nutritional Epidemiology, which is currently in its third edition and has published over 1,700 original research papers and reviews, mostly on lifestyle risk factors for heart disease, cancer, and other diseases. He has also published four novels for the general audience. Dr. Willett is the most-cited nutritionist in the world. He is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and the National Academy of Sciences, and he has received several national and international scientific prizes.
