As VP of IEEE Standards Activities from 1993 to 1994, he strengthened ties with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), positioning the IEEE for a more prominent role in global principles advancement. During this time, Dr. Peruse played an important role in developing IEEE Standards Activities? departmental activities and structure in order to better serve the industry through the formation of the IEEE Standards Association (SA) and the IEEE Industry Standards and Technology Organization (IEEE-ISTO). Dr. Peruse, an IEEE Life Fellow, served as interim president of the IEEE in 1996 and served on the IEEE Board of Directors for ten years. Among his many honors are the IEEE Standards Association International Award, the IEEE Power Engineering Society's Power Life Award, and the Order of Canada.
