Vipul was a co-founder of Topsy, a social search and analytics firm, in 2008. Vipul was born and raised in New Delhi, India. He spent most of his adolescent years outside of the classroom, creating computer programs and competing in Table Tennis. He won the junior state championship at the age of 13 and went on to play on the national table tennis circuit until he graduated. Vipul is a strong advocate of free software and has made a lot of his work available under open source licenses. He is the author of a number of well-known modifications for the Perl programming language. Vipul considers himself a cypherpunk and has a great interest in cryptography. He wrote Perl code in the shape of a dolphin to implement the RSA cryptosystem in an export-friendly form factor. He recently released Athens, a design for an electronic voting system that employs cryptographic methods to give accurate proofs. Vipul and Rishab A. founded Vipul and Rishab A. in May of 2000. Ghosh released the Orbiten Free Software Survey, which is widely regarded as the first successful attempt at developing a complete empirical model of Open Source project participation. The survey's technology and techniques are now often utilized in Open Source research.
