The principal of Vern Myers Consulting Group, LLC (VMCG), Vern Myers, Esq., is a well-respected authority on diversity and inclusion in law firms, legal departments, and law faculties. Vern is an engaging speaker and innovative adviser who advocates for the improvement of minority group recruitment, retention, and progression. Through conducting cultural assessments, creating thorough strategic diversity action plans based on her understanding of cross-cultural competencies, and leading engaging and interactive workshops in the U.S. and abroad, VMCG has worked with over 100 legal clients to bring about sustainable organizational change. She was selected in 2008 as one of The Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly's "Diversity Heroes" and in 2009 as one of The Network Journal's "25 Influential Black Women in Business." Vern served as the inaugural Executive Director of The Boston Law Firm Group, a group of companies dedicated to boosting racial and cultural diversity, before founding VMCG. During her tenure as Massachusetts' deputy chief of staff (1997–1999), she implemented a comprehensive diversity and inclusion effort, expanding minority hiring, providing sexual harassment and diversity training, and doing outreach to the state's varied community. Vern spent six years working at Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault, LLP and Fitch, Wiley, Richlin & Tourse, LLP in Boston where he handled corporate and real estate law. Vern earned a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, from Barnard College, Columbia University, and went on to get a law degree from Harvard.
