Former CNN domestic and CNN international Business Anchor Valerie Coleman Morris is an Emmy Award-winning journalist. With a daily series called "Smart Assets," Morris covered largely personal finance topics for CNN in her latter years. In 2007, Valerie Coleman Morris made the conscious decision to pursue her interest and narrow her attention to the area of financial literacy as it relates to business and social economics. Her main area of focus is financial literacy for women and people of color, two of the groups in society who are the most marginalized when it comes to financial matters. From WPIX-TV in New York, where she worked as a general assignment reporter and weekend anchor, Valerie Coleman Morris joined CNN in 1996. Morris started out as a broadcast journalist for KRON-TV and KGO-TV in San Francisco, where she worked as a researcher, general assignment reporter, and eventually an anchor. Morris also served as the lunchtime anchor at KCBS-TV in Los Angeles and the morning drive anchor at KCBS Radio in San Francisco. Val Coleman Morris has won a number of honors, including three California Emmy Awards for both special reports and breaking news events. Morris had a significant role in the Peabody Award-winning coverage that KCBS-Radio provided as co-anchor after the 1989 California earthquake that resulted in the collapse of a piece of the San Francisco Bay Bridge. Valerie Coleman Morris holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from San Jose State University in California and a Master of Science in Broadcast Journalism from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York, where she was awarded a fellowship from The New York Times.
