Technology entrepreneur Tristan Walker gives back by assisting underrepresented students in entering the field. He made a significant move in June 2012 when he left his well-known job as Foursquare's director of business development to join the venture capital company Andreessen Horowitz, where he is currently the creator of Walker & Company Brands. Walker, a Queens, New York, native, graduated from Stony Brook University as valedictorian. Walker resigned from his job as an oil trader on Wall Street because he detested it and enrolled in Stanford's MBA program. At FourSquare, he began as a volunteer and two years later held the position of director of business development. A nonprofit organization called CODE2040 was established by him in July 2012 to connect top-performing black and Latino software engineering students with tech businesses for summer internships. Five engineers from the first class received fellowships from companies including RockMelt, Jawbone, and Tumblr. Walker told The Root, "We need to break the code. "We need to link the talents that may not have access with the abilities that tech businesses demand."
