One of the longest-serving cast members of Saturday Night Live in its 43-year existence is the actor and comedian Tim Meadows. Tim Meadows, a dynamic comic who spent ten years on the well-known late-night program, created some of the show's most iconic characters. These characters included Lionel Osbourne, the anchor of the fake public affairs program Perspectives, Leon Phelps, The Ladies Man, and uncanny impersonations of Sammy Davis Jr., Ike Turner, and OJ Simpson. Meadows studied television and radio broadcasting at Wayne State University before doing improv comedy at the Soup Kitchen Saloon. Meadows was born in Highland Park, Michigan, and reared in Detroit. Meadows moved to Chicago in 1985, initially joining the renowned comedic group Second City and subsequently ImprovOlympic. He created and acted in The Gods Must Be Lazy with Chris Farley, It Was Thirty Years Ago Today, and Flag Smoking Permitted in Lobby Only during his three years at Second City, where he developed a devoted fan base for his razor-sharp comic skills. When producer Lorne Michaels persuaded Meadows to join SNL as a featured player in 1991, Meadows realized the aspirations of comedians all around the country. He became a cast member two years after being nominated for an Emmy as a member of the show's writing team in the same month.
