Makkonen, Abel Tesfaye is a Canadian singer-songwriter and record producer better known by his stage name, The Weeknd (pronounced the weekend). Tesfaye published a number of songs under the alias The Weeknd on YouTube in late 2010. In 2011, he released three nine-track mixtapes, including the well-received House of Balloons Thursday and Echoes of Silence. He released the remastered mixtapes and three new songs as part of the compilation album Trilogy in 2012. Both his own label, XO, and Republic Records published it. His first studio album, Kiss Land, was released in 2013 and featured the hits Live For and Kiss Land. Earned It, the third song from his second album Beauty Behind the Madness, which peaked at number one on the US Billboard 200 and yielded the hit singles The Hills and Can't Feel My Face, was featured. He is the only musician in history to do this, with the songs holding the top three positions on the Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart concurrently. Nine Juno Awards and two Grammy Awards have both been won by The Weeknd. The third album Starboy release date was announced in September 2016, along with the single Starboy, which later peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
