Scott Sandell Biography

NEA's Technology Contributing Practice leader is Scott, a General Partner. He has gradually promoted interests in firms transforming the sector, such as Bloom Energy Data Domain Fusion-io Salesforce.com, since entering the company in 1996—Workday and WebEx by Tableau Software. Scott has a portfolio of 16 innovative companies that have successfully closed open contributions or mergers and has been recognized on Forbes' Midas List several times. Scott leads NEA's activities in China and focuses on data innovation and alternative energy businesses. Now, Scott serves as the chief supervisor of two publicly traded companies, Spreadtrum and Fusion-io, and several privately held companies, including Bloom Energy and Blue Jeans Network—Cloudflare Coursera SolFocus HelioVolt Software from Tableau and Workday. Applied Micro Circuits Corp. acquired 3ware, Juniper Networks acquired Neoteris, NetIQ (NASDAQ: IQ), and Playdom, among others (procured by Disney). Scott worked as a Microsoft product manager before joining NEA, where he worked on Windows 95. Before working for Microsoft, Scott served as the company's lead salesperson for C-ATS Software before founding and leading the subsidiary's European division. He began his career there at Boston Consulting Group. Scott has a Stanford MBA and a Dartmouth College BS in Engineering Sciences. He is a member of the National Venture Capital Association's (NVCA) board of directors.
